One of the reasons the grind and seal finish is so popular is because it’s a highly attractive yet low-cost solution for existing concrete surfaces.
Concrete floors are everywhere in Australia — from cafes to industrial warehouses to upmarket homes. But, inevitably, they crack, stain and darken, especially if the concrete slabs were poorly applied decades ago.
With our grind and seal service, we grind down the tarnished or scratched concrete until we reach the brighter, smoother substrate. A clear sealant is then applied. The result is a good-as-new concrete floor free of stains and flaws; all at a fraction of the cost of laying new concrete.
And that’s barely scratching the surface. Our grind and seal finish offers a wealth of benefits that make it perfect for stylish residential homes as well as high-traffic commercial sites.
The sealant we use is highly resistant to abrasion and corrosion, protecting your floors from foot traffic and solvent spills.
The added durability lightens the need for ongoing maintenance, saving your budget. Sealed concrete can also be swept, mopped and scrubbed with industrial-grade cleaning solutions.
The concrete sealant we use is non-porous, meaning it will not absorb bacteria and foster infectious growths. Your loved ones, staff and customers will thank you for it.
We can add a matte, semi-gloss or high-gloss finish. And if you find your polished concrete floor slippery, we’ve got an anti-slip finish that’ll do the trick.
Using a grind and seal finish to revitalise your existing concrete floors is far more affordable than replacing them entirely or covering them up.

While the grind and seal process does result in a smooth sheen, it’s not necessarily a slippery one. However, food and liquid spillage, or even sweat, can make it one. We strongly recommend you discuss adding a non-slip finish with our experts. We’ll discuss your expected traffic level and how to mitigate as much risk as possible.

Policrete’s grind and seal floor finishing cost, on average, $50 per square metre. More expensive jobs tend to settle at around $80 per square meter. To place these prices in context, these prices are half as much as what you would pay for a mechanically polished concrete finish.
The grind and seal cost is so much lower than concrete polishing simply because it is less intensive. It requires less labour and fewer materials. Don’t let that fool you, though, because the results are just as beautiful.
The grind and seal process is done in two stages. The first is the grinding process: we use increasingly fine industrial grinders to reveal and smooth the concrete substrate, bringing it to a level finish. Grinding can be a hazardous process, creating significant amounts of harmful concrete dust. We keep your space clean and safe by employing 3 Phase HEPA 13 Dust Extraction Units. Don’t worry — we’ll leave the area cleaner than we found it.
Once the concrete is polished to an acceptable level, we begin the sealing process. We add a layer of sealant in a matte, semi-gloss or high-gloss finish, creating the beautiful floor you’ve always wanted.
Concrete that has been ground and sealed is extremely hardy. So even in high-impact and high-traffic areas, it shouldn’t need to be replaced for years. And, as a non-porous surface where bacteria won’t survive, it’s perfect for commercial and industrial applications.
The exact cost of grind and seal flooring will vary, depending on factors like the size of the job and the state of the concrete. However, grind and seal is always very cost effective. A grind and seal floor will cost only a fraction as much as other finishes. Additionally, because it is less labour intensive, it will be completed more quickly.
The grind and seal method is a quick and affordable way to revamp concrete floors. As opposed to polished concrete — where a slab must be expertly poured by a professional concreter and mechanically polished — grind and seal works with an existing concrete floor. A sealant is applied to the surface after it has been ground back.
A grind and seal can be performed quickly, results in a rustic, industrial look, and is usually the most affordable flooring option.
Grind and seal concrete floors are suited to all indoor and outdoor settings. Depending on the quality of the pre-existing concrete, it’s a suitable surface for homes, cafes and pubs, warehouses, and commercial settings like offices and retail outlets.
Grinding and sealing a concrete surface removes many of the scratches that have accumulated over time and gives a smooth and improved appearance to an old surface. The result is an affordable floor that is durable and has a much better look than before. Additionally, grind and seal can be completed more quickly than other flooring types.
