Subfloor Levelling Is Vital for a Stable Concrete Floor

Whether installing a new concrete floor or planning a renovation project, you know the intrinsic value of a level floor. If you are starting from scratch, levelling your concrete slabs correctly ensures that any finishes applied over the subfloor, like tiles or timber flooring, can be installed without fear of splits, cracks or bumps.

Concrete levelling can also help restore damaged floors in an existing property. This is especially true for flooring in heavy-traffic areas, such as industrial or commercial worksites. In time, you will notice dips, holes, cracks and warps in the concrete. These degradations are inevitable after years of wear and tear.

But Policrete’s concrete floor levelling services can restore and rejuvenate degraded floors to keep your site safe, clean and aesthetically pleasing.

Policrete’s self-levelling concrete guarantees perfect floors

Self-levelling concrete is a polymer-cement compound. Its high fluidity makes it much easier to spread evenly and allows it to settle smoothly before it dries.

If you want to even out an existing floor, we recommend beginning with concrete grinding to remove any degraded finishes, such as paint or epoxy.

Once our concrete grinders have prepped your floor, we will apply the self-levelling concrete.

Necessary floor preparation

Level flooring is a must for any construction site. But getting a concrete surface level takes skill and experience to do quickly — and correctly.

Safety first

Working on a level concrete surface can prevent major accidents, especially on industrial sites or commercial garages with high heavy machinery and vehicle traffic.

Level screed for decorative finishes

Tile and timber floors need an even surface to lay on, and our self-levelling compound is the perfect screed to prep a concrete slab for decorative floor coverings.

Range of coloured finishes

Policrete’s self-levelling compound comes in an infinite variety of gorgeous colours. Finished with a transparent sealant, it makes an attractive branded floor.

High-quality self-levelling compound

Our self-levelling formula creates waterproof and highly durable floors capable of withstanding harsh weather and heavy foot and vehicle traffic.

Frequently asked questions

What is a concrete screed?

Screed is a thin layer of concrete laid as the final element of the subfloor. The purpose of a screed is to create a smooth, level subfloor upon which additional surface finishes can be applied.

Self-levelling concrete is commonly used to create the screed because, as the name suggests, it creates a reliably even finish.

What is self-levelling concrete?

Self-levelling concrete is a polymer-cement mixture. Its makeup allows it to flow quickly and even itself out. It is commonly used as a screed over an existing floor to prepare it for the desired finish, such as timber, tiles or carpeting.

Are there concrete levelling specifications for different finishes?

Yes. When creating a concrete subfloor, it is critical to consider what the final finish will be. This will allow you to create a subfloor at the proper depth to accommodate your finish.

Levelling specifications are a ratio of millimetres to metres, defining how much variance (by millimetre) your floors can have over a given space (by metre).

Here are some basic rule-of-thumb specs:

  • Timber: 3 mm over 3 m
  • Carpets: 8–12 mm over 3 m
  • Tiles: Variable depending on the size and thickness of the tiles and the accuracy of their edges
  • Vinyl: Variable, though the smoother the subfloor, the better the vinyl finish.
